Anderson, what are you apologizing for!? After losing UFC 168 due to a gruesome broken left leg, the iconic fighter piled the blame on himself with a heart-wrenching tweet.
Though it seems hard to blame Anderson Silva for suffering a horrific broken leg that knocked him out of his middleweight UFC title match on Dec. 29, and possibly ended his career, the 38-year-old was feeling extremely guilty afterwards, and he even sent his apologies to his homeland, Brazil.
Anderson Silva Tweets Apology For Losing UFC 168
While everyone was sending their prayers and support to Anderson after seeing him leg gruesomely snap, he was apologizing (!) to all Brazilians. He tweeted:
Brasil sinto muito não queria ter desapontado vocês dei o meu melhor eu juro
â" Anderson Silva (@SpiderAnderson) December 29, 2013
The tweet roughly translates to, “Brazil, I’m very sorry to have disappointed you, did not give my best I swear.”
Wow, talk about a guy being hard on himself. The way Anderson’s left leg bent backwards after connecting to Chris Weidman’s shin, it seems impossible to think that the fighter could have done anything to prevent it. It is true that Anderson had been outfought leading up to the injury, but he easily could have turned things around had he not suffered such a freak accident.
Come on, Anderson! You’re one of the best UFC fighters ever — we’re sure Brazil is proud to call you theirs.
Anderson Silva: Out Three To Six Months
And fortunately, Anderson is already on the road to recovery. On Dec. 29, the UFC released an official statement saying that the fighter’s surgery was a success — and his rehab time is actually shorter than you’d think. The owner of UFC said:
Following Saturday evening’s UFC 168 main event, former champion Anderson Silva was taken to a local Las Vegas hospital where he underwent surgery to repair a broken left leg. The successful surgery, performed by Dr. Steven Sanders, the UFC’s Orthopedic Surgeon, inserted an intramedullary rod into Anderson’s left tibia.
The broken fibula was stabilized and does not require a separate surgery. Anderson will remain in the hospital for a short while, but no additional surgery is scheduled at this time. Recovery time for such injuries may vary between three and six months.
What a relief. Maybe after having some time to reflect, and now knowing that the injury isn’t as bad as it looked, Anderson will be able to forgive himself and perk up.
