The boy who brought a shotgun to his Colorado high school on Dec. 13 and subsequently shot and critically injured one student has been identified as Karl Pierson, an 18-year-old student who was seeking revenge on a teacher.
On the one-year anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook, the nation is unfortunately reeling from another fresh school shooting. The scary incident took place on Dec. 13 at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. when a student of the school opened fire, critically injuring a 15-year-old female student before killing himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hours after the horrible act of violence, authorities released the name of the shooter.
Arapahoe High School Shooter Identified As Karl Pierson
He was identified as Karl Pierson, 18. Karl, who brought an unconcealed shotgun and two Molotov cocktails into the high school, resorted to violence to get revenge on librarian and debate team advisor Tracy Murphy, according to 7NEWS. Tracy had reportedly recently kicked Karl off of the debate team.
“This shooting was the result of revenge on the part of the shooter because of a confrontation or disagreement between the shooter and the teacher that the shooter was looking for when he entered the school just before 12:33,” Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said.
Tracy was reportedly made aware of Karl’s intentions, and was able to evacuate the school before any harm came to him. And before police could apprehend the shooter, he shot and killed himself inside the high school.
15-Year-Old Student In Critical Condition
It’s a miracle that Tracy is still alive, but there unfortunately was collateral damage from Karl’s attempted act of revenge. A 15-year-old female student was shot and critically injured — she was in critical condition after going through surgery on the night of Dec. 13, according to the Denver Post. Some claim that the student was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, while others claim she tried to approach him and stop him.
Two other Arapahoe High School students were treated and released at a nearby hospital for non-gunshot-related injuries.
It is just a horrible story, one that we are unfortunately becoming too accustomed to hearing. Our thoughts go out to the families of all the students at Arapahoe High School, and especially the student who is still in critical condition.
