Ever since rumors emerged that Niall Horan has been dating Justin Bieber’s ex Barbara Palvin, passionate One Direction fans have been upset â€" because Niall once said that he would never date a model! Here’s why we think he should.

We at HollywoodLife.com understand passionate fanbases, and we’ve definitely heard their voices â€" trust us. We know what a shipping war looks like. And Victoria’s Secret model Barbara Palvin is certainly getting in deep by dating One Direction‘s Niall Horan after briefly dating Justin Bieber in Nov. 2012, because Niall once said that he would never date a model. However, Niall’s fans shouldn’t hold him to something he said years ago!

When Niall said “I would never date a model because models are perfect and perfect is boring,” he was likely not 100 percent serious. Not only did he say that a couple of years ago â€" and a lot has happened since then! â€" it’s also kind of a general statement, and a flawed one. Who said models are perfect? They’re beautiful, sure â€" that’s literally their job â€" but that says nothing about their individual personalities.

Besides, who hasn’t said something they later wanted to take back? I’ve said lots of things that I’ve not only wanted to take back, but when I think about them I actively try to banish them from my mind. So, I’ve got your back, Niall.

Luckily, One Direction has some of the best fans in the world, so the conversation in social media hasn’t been too vitriolic. But there is definitely a sense of betrayal.

I can understand a little jealousy, but One Direction fans, there’s no need for you to feel betrayed! You should be happy for Niall, and support him in his decisions. After all, he’s dating a gorgeous and talented girl and, most importantly, he seems all the happier for it.

As a fan of One Direction and of Niall, you should be supporting not only them but Barbara, too! With the level of passion that 1D fans have, Barbara’s got a hard, paparazzi-filled road ahead of her, so show her some love and be happy for them both!
