9 Most Toxic TV Couples From ‘Scandal,’ ‘Vampire Diaries’ & More

Browse our picks and share your own: Which TV couples need to split for good?

Like the Britney Spears song of the same name, some TV couples are just toxic. You know the ones I’m talking about; the couples fans shamelessly root for, ignoring how poorly the characters treat each other, and how damaging they are for one another. HollywoodLife.com made a list of nine such couples from shows like Scandal, Glee and The Vampire Diaries – so come on, let’s get judgmental!

9 Most Toxic TV Couples

1. Olivia & Fitz, Scandal: What’s there to say about President Fitzgerald Grant and his First Mistress that we haven’t already said? He’s married. Her father is the head of B613. Jake is a viable alternative. I know Liv’s life is stressful, and sometimes stress can make you do crazy things, but she’s better than this. She deserves better than this.

2. Carrie & Brody, Homeland: I understand why Carrie and Brody are linked at the moment, but Carrie needs a really good girlfriend — or a really good therapist — to sit her down and explain all the ways that being with Brody is a mistake. You know, besides the fact that it’s literally a matter of national security. There are plenty of hot gingers in the sea, and we’re confident Carrie could find another someday.

3. Klaus & Cami, The Originals: Besides the fact that Klaus shouldn’t even bother pursuing another woman until he’s over Caroline — which will be never — his behavior towards Cami this season has been nothing short of atrocious. If he really cared about her, as Marcel suspects, he wouldn’t be melting her brain with his constant compulsion. I know Klaus is one of the most emotionally damaged characters on TV, but that’s really no excuse for the way he’s been treating her.

4. Aria & Ezra, Pretty Little Liars: Is anyone still rooting for this couple to get together? Ignoring the fact that it’s illegal for them to have sex and they first hooked up in a public bathroom, Ezra has literally tried to kill Aria. Several times. Whether or not he turns out to be the “A,” Ezra has done too much to Aria for her to forgive him — that is, if she ever figures out he’s the one who’s been calling her a bitch over texts.

5. Stefan & Katherine, The Vampire Diaries: After everything Stefan’s been through lately, he definitely deserves some happiness — but Katherine’s so not his ticket to Happy Town. I understand his judgment is clouded by their romantic history, but as we’ve seen in the past, no good can come from dating Miz Petrova. For proof, please consult Mason Lockwood. Oh wait, he’s dead.

6. Jake & Marley, Glee: This one’s especially crushing for us. Seeing Jake and Marley so happy together at the beginning of this season, we had high hopes that he might actually buck the Puckerman trend of bad-boyfriending — but then he cheated with Bree and it was all downhill from there. If Marley takes Jake back, we’ll lose all respect for her. And we love Marley.

7. Cristina & Owen, Grey’s Anatomy: We’re glad that Cristina and Shane are finally knocking boots, because after Dr. Yang’s tumultuous relationship with Owen, she deserves some good ol’ fashioned fun in her life. Even if it were possible for Owen to redeem herself, there isn’t enough time left in Cristina’s final season to make his personal evolution realistic.

8. Nolan & Patrick, Revenge: There’s no denying these two having red-hot chemistry, but there’s also no denying that their relationship is destined to go down in flames. Patrick is a shady dude, and if there’s one thing Nolan doesn’t need more of in his life, it’s shady dudes. First Tyler, now Patrick; Nolan really knows how to pick ‘em.

9. Jenna & anyone, Awkward: If there’s one thing I’ve always known, which Awkward confirmed this season, it’s that Jenna Hamilton is kind of the worst. Despite constantly scoring unrealistically perfect guys, Jenna practically refuses to let herself be happy. And her constant (read: unnecessary) attempts to re-invent herself usually end up hurting whichever guy she’s currently dating. Matty… Jake… even that d-bag Collin.
