So sad. Claire Davis, a senior at Arapahoe High School, has been identified as the girl who was tragically shot at point-blank range during a school shooting on Dec. 13. The teenaged victim is still in critical condition at a Colorado hospital, hanging on to her life.
There was only one gunshot victim from Karl Pierson‘s, 18, Dec. 13 attack on his own school, Arapahoe High School. And while this most recent school shooting could have been so much worse, the lone victim, 17-year-old Claire Davis, is still hospitalized and in critical condition.
Claire Davis: Colorado School Shooting Victim Identified
Claire was reportedly sitting by a door with a friend when the shooter entered Arapahoe High School with a shotgun and opened fire. She was shot at point-blank range and suffered severe head trauma, according to KUSA.
“She was an innocent victim and I do believe that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson told KMGH.
Claire was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Since that surgery, Claire’s status has been upgraded from serious to critical condition, and sadly, her father told KMGH that “she’s not doing very well.”
A vigil was held in Claire’s honor at the school on Dec. 14, with hundreds of students showing up to lend their prayers and support to the Davis family.
Arapahoe High School Shooting
The shooter, Karl Pierson, entered his high school with a loaded shotgun and two Molotov cocktails. It is believed that he was seeking revenge on librarian and debate team advisor, Tracy Murphy, who had demoted Karl on the debate team earlier in the week.
Tracy was able to escape the school before Karl could find him, and in total the shooting only lasted 80 seconds from the time the shooter entered the school and the time he took his own life. Karl committed suicide inside the high school, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooting at Arapahoe High School is yet another tragic, extremely scary act of violence. Though it is a relief that there wasn’t more than one victim, everyone is holding out hope that this most recent tragedy results in zero fatalities.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Claire and her family and friends during this difficult time.
