Carrie Underwood Defends Controverisal ‘Sound Of Music’ Role

Carrie Underwood Defends Controverisal ‘Sound Of Music’ Role

Just like Maria von Trapp, Carrie doesn’t pay attention to what anyone else thinks! The reviews of Carrie’s ‘Sound of Music Live’ performance may be mixed, but that doesn’t mean she’s not proud of her performance, and defended herself and the cast in a tweet!

Carrie Underwood took a huge risk when she starred in a live televised production of The Sound of Music alongside True Blood’s Stephen Moyer. Trying to remake a movie as widely-loved as the Julie Andrews classic was bound to be met with criticism — even from an original cast member — but she declared that she “couldn’t be more proud” of what she had accomplished.

Carrie Underwood Defends Her Controverisal ‘Sound Of Music Live’ Performance

Carrie said she was “honored” to be performing in The Sound of Music, and was so grateful for her “amazing” cast and crew.

She tweeted:

And when it was all over, she said:

Did she know that people would critique her performance no matter what, and stuck up for herself to remind others that doing what she did was no easy feat? After all, spending countless hours rehearsing (dancing, singing, instrument-playing and acting) for a live televised performance for one of the most beloved movies of all time is no small undertaking!

Carrie Underwood Dissed By Original ‘The Sound of Music’ Star Gretl Von Trapp

Kym Karath, who played Gretl Von Trapp in the original The Sound of Music, didn’t hold back when taking to Twitter to express her thoughts throughout the film.

First she said she was “disappointed,” then she called scenes “painful.” Finally, she slammed Carrie for her acting which she called “wrong.”

Kym started off with: “Mystified & disappointed so far by SOM special. So far only happy with Stephen Moyer.” Then she followed that up with: “Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch.”

But the most defining diss of all her tweets was: “Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong.”
