Jennifer Lawrence: Fat-Shaming On TV Should Be ‘Illegal’ — Watch

Jennifer Lawrence: Fat-Shaming On TV Should Be ‘Illegal’ â€" Watch

Jennifer Lawrence knows what it feels like to be called ‘fat’ — and she knows that one little word can have a lasting negative impact on women of all shapes and sizes. That’s why the actress thinks it should be ‘illegal’ to call people the ‘humiliating’ F-word on television.

Jennifer Lawrence, who in November slammed shows like Fashion Police for promoting negative body image, knows her work is not done. So when the Academy Award-winning actress sat down for a special new interview with Barbara Walters, she took it as an opportunity to continue her crusade against the word “fat,” saying, ”I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV.”

Jennifer Lawrence On Body Image — Fat-Shaming On TV Should Be Illegal

Jen took aim at the folks on Fashion Police once again during an appearance on the ABC News special Barbara Walters: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013.

“Why is humiliating people funny? I get it, and I do it, too. We all do it,” she admits.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not hurtful.

“I think the media needs to take responsibility for the effect it has on our younger generation, on these girls that are watching these television shows and picking up how to talk and how to be cool,” J-Law says. “So all of a sudden being funny is making fun of a girl that’s wearing an ugly dress.”

Jen recently revealed that she is considered fat by Hollywood standards, so we understand why this issue hits so close to home for her. She has also said that she was called fat as a child.

“If we’re regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words, because of the effect it has on our younger generation, why aren’t we regulating things like calling people fat?” Jen asks Barbara.

J-Law makes an excellent point. We love her for voicing her opinion and standing up for women everywhere!

Jennifer Lawrence Attacks ‘Fashion Police’ — They Value The ‘Wrong Things’

Jen slammed the popular E! show Fashion Police for teaching young people to value the “wrong things,” in a November interview with Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.

“Shows like the Fashion Police and things like that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on things [that don't matter],” Jen said. “They put values in all the things that are wrong and [show] that it’s ok to just point at people and call them ugly and call them fat and they call it fun.”

So HollywoodLifers, do you agree with Jen? Do you wish it was illegal to call people fat on TV? Let us know.
