A lot happened in 2013 that was worth celebrating, but the year was also filled with a ton of heartbreak. Let’s pour one out for each of these marquee couples who couldn’t make it to Christmas.
This year will pretty much be remembered for Miley Cyrus‘ twerking and overall takeover, but we’ll sadly also remember 2013 as the year that we lost some of the biggest couples in Hollywood. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez couldn’t make multiple reunions last, Miley’s aforementioned twerking led to heartbreak, and not even Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson could stay together. And they weren’t the only ones to get infected by the breakup bug.
Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez Split Up
Justin and Selena first broke up just before the new year, but they shockingly came back together when she flew all the way to Norway to meet Justin on his “Believe” tour in April. But that surprise meet-up turned out to be more of an intercontinental booty call than anything else.
The Biebs and Selena had several shocking reunions throughout 2013 — most notably on the Fourth of July and on Selena’s 21st birthday — but a full-blown relationship just never materialized. Then Justin started going to strip clubs and brothels, and our hope for them hit an all-time low.
Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart Call It Quits
Rob and Kristen’s 2013 started off similarly rocky, with R-Patz demanding a trial separation in January while he went to film The Rover in Australia. The breakup did end up just being a trial split though, as Rob and Kristen got back together when he returned to Los Angeles in March. Sadly, it didn’t last long after that.
Rob and Kristen officially broke up on May 18. K-Stew spent the summer upset, while her ex was seen out with other girls. But as 2013 comes to a close, Robsten isn’t officially dead. The two spent Thanksgiving together, a source told HollywoodLife.com exclusively, and Kristen apparently even has an open invitation to spend Christmas in London.

Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth Break Off Their Engagement
But not only did relationships end in 2013 — freaking engagements did too!
After a summer of speculation, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth finally called off their marriage in early September, following her jaw-dropping raunchy performance at the MTV VMAs. To be fair, Miley was no longer the girl who Liam proposed to in 2012 — and their breakup felt like it was a long time coming.
Liam certainly didn’t waste any time celebrating his freedom, and he was caught making out with Mexican hottie Eiza Gonzalez just one day after the breakup was announced. Yikes!
Sadly, these three splits were only the biggest breakups of this year — there were A LOT more. So tell us what you think — what was the most shocking split of 2013?
