Phil Robertson Speaks Out After Controversy: ‘I Will Not Back Off’

Phil Robertson is standing by his remarks that have him in hot water. On Dec. 22, the ‘Duck Dynasty’ star spoke to a Bible study group in West Monroe, Louisiana and made it clear that he wasn’t about to take back the comments that have him temporarily suspended from his show.

Phil Robertson‘s controversial remarks he made in an interview with GQ may have resulted in a suspension from his hit show and caused quite the backlash, but he’s not about to go back on his beliefs.

Phil Robertson Speaks Out

“I will not give or back off from my path,” Phil, 67, said during a Bible study group at his home town church in Louisiana. “We are a bunch of rednecks from Louisiana, but I am not uneducated, I have a degree from Louisiana Tech. But this week I have been called an ignoramus,” he said, according to eyewitnesses from MailOnline.

This comes on the heels of Phil making comments about the gay community, saying that homosexuals will not get into Heaven, and that being gay leads to Bestiality.

“This week I have been asked, ‘Is this the first time you have brought up sin?’ I said, ‘Are you kidding? I have been traveling to and fro spreading this message,’” he said to the group. ”Then he said, ‘Well do you invite yourself to go and get your Bible and tell people what you are now sharing with us?’ I said, ‘No they are inviting me.’”

However, Paul reiterated that at the end of the day, he is still a “lover.”

“I love all men and women. I am a lover of humanity, not a hater,” he said to the group before beginning a prayer. “I will not give or back off from my path because you conquered death, Father, so we are not worried about all the repercussions.”

‘Duck Dynasty’ Cast Threatens To Quit

A&E decided to suspend Phil from the show indefinitely after his controversial comments, in which he stated that black people were happier before the Civil Rights movement, and even comparing Muslims to Nazis.

However, the show may be canceled altogether. After it was announced that he was suspended, the Robertson family released a statement, supporting him.

“While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Phil would never incite or encourage hate,” the family said in the statement before saying that they’re not sure what it means now for the show.

“As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm,” they added.
