Tom Daley, 19, Dating Oscar Winner Dustin Lance Black, 39

The British Olympic diver is reportedly dating Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who’s 20 years older than he is, after coming out — and revealing that he’s in a ‘happy’ relationship! Read on for more details. 

Tom Daley, 19, surprised his fans when he came out in a YouTube video on Dec. 2 and said that he was dating a man, who’s reportedly the Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, 39. Tom is “besotted” with him, according to The Sun, and they’re even planning a future together!

Tom has been dating Dustin, who won an Academy Award in 2008 for his screenplay for Milk, the biopic about gay rights activist Harvey Milk, according to E! News. The two were seen together for the first time in October getting coffee, although they reportedly met in London over the summer.

“[Tom] is besotted with Dustin. They love each other and aren’t concerned what anyone says about age difference. Dustin is very proud of Tom for making such a powerful statement about his sexuality,” The Sun reports. “They are officially in a long term relationship and are talking about having a future together.”

Dustin, an American, has also won other prestigious writing awards, and is also an active LGBT rights activist.

In Tom’s video titled “Something I want to say…” Tom candidly discusses â€" for the very first time â€" his current relationship, possibly with Dustin, saying, “I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great. And, well, that someone is a guy.”

Though this is the first time most of the world is learning about Tom’s sexuality, there is one person he made sure to tell before the big announcement: his mother, Debbie. He says she’s been “so supportive,” even if the rest of his family members have “mixed opinions” on the subject.

Tom also believes his late father Robert, who died from cancer in 2011, would also be OK with his announcement. “People will think, ‘What would your dad say?’” Tom says in the video. “He always said to me, ‘As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.’ And right now, I couldn’t be happier.”
