Paul mused about what his father-daughter relationship with Meadow would be when he was 40 and she was 15 — their ages in 2013 — in an eerie interview from 2003. The actor opened up about how scary being a father still was for him, even though his little girl was already 5 years old.
Paul Walker was tragically killed in a Nov. 30 car crash in Santa Clarita, Calif., and is survived by his 15-year-old daughter Meadow Walker. The two shared a beautiful, close relationship throughout their time together, one that the actor had never taken for granted. Paul opened up about his hopes for his daughter’s upbringing in an interview given while promoting 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003 — 10 years before his untimely passing.
Paul Walker’s Wish For Meadow Walker Revealed In Eerie Interview
When Meadow was just 5 years old, her dad was already thinking about the quality of her future.
âI have a daughter and sheâs been going on camping trips with me recently.” Paul told CosmoGirl in 2003. ”Itâs important to me that she experiences those things and grows while doing all that. I think sometimes it may be overwhelming for her because of who her daddy is and what he does.”
“I hope it never gets to a [bad] level, but thereâs a chance it will, and I just know that the only way to offset that would be to make the outdoors a key part of her life,” Paul explained.
His emphasis on instilling a love of the outdoors in his daughter was based off of how much nature helped him in his adjustment to becoming a father. “Being out in nature is a big part of the way I am the way I am today. I was really freaked out [about becoming a dad]. The whole thought of being a dad was scary to me,” he explained. “Itâs kind of like that Creed song that says, I donât know if Iâm ready/To be the man I have to be. Every day, you find yourself scratching your head, going, âWow am I really? I guess I really am!’”
Paul Walker Opened Up About Fatherhood
Paul was 40 at the time of his death, but that was the exact age he mentioned in his future plans of parenthood.
“I would imagine that even when Iâm 40 and looking at her, Iâll still be going, Iâm a dad!” Paul predicted to CosmoGirl. “Itâs just pretty wild. I donât think itâs anything you get fully used to, because I donât think anybody thinks that theyâre truly prepared or ready for that.”
Paul’s words are especially spooky following his untimely death, but his sentiment is so beautiful and will hopefully remain with Meadow forever.
