Plus, everyone is getting really concerned about Bailey — and they should be.
The Nov. 21 episode of Grey’s Anatomy gave the doctors some things to be thankful for, and some things not to be thankful for. Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) continued to make progress, while Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) weird behavior got worse — and two doctors shared an unexpected kiss!
Invitations & ‘Services’
April (Sarah Drew) started sending out wedding invitations for her wedding to Matthew (Justin Bruening) and she extended an early invitation to Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton). She told Stephanie that she could bring Jackson (Jesse Williams). Wait, why doesn’t April just invite Jackson? They are much closer than her and Stephanie. Well, it turns out that April didn’t want to put Jackson on the list because his name would be first and it would always be the first name she saw. It’s a weird excuse, but I see where she is coming from.
Jackson questioned April about the invite and April said she really did want him there. She also confessed that she couldn’t go through with the wedding if she didn’t have his blessing. He gave her his blessing, but all I could focus on was the tension between those two.
Cristina (Sandra Oh) wanted to get laid. She said it was bad for her work and humanity (at least she’s honest). Shane (Gaius Charles), her new protege, offered to “service” her needs. She adamantly refused his suggestion. She told Alex (Justin Chambers) it would be like having sex with a baby seal. Seriously, Cristina always gets the best lines.
S.O.S. Bailey
Ben (Jason George) became increasingly worried about Bailey’s irrational behavior. He observed her in surgery and noticed she wasn’t herself. He OCD was getting worse. Ben warned Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) about her behavior. Before Bailey started her surgery, Owen and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) came in and tested her OCD, just to confirm it was as bad as Ben said it was. Their worst fears about Bailey were proven correct and they asked her to step away from the surgery.
Later, Bailey freaked in front of Ben and threw down a chair. Then, she picked it back up because of her OCD. She told him to stay out of her career. Bailey needs help badly. We all know she would have a “come to Jesus” meeting with any of the other doctors if this was happening to them.
Road To Recovery
After Callie showed up at Arizona’s door in the last episode, the couple was moving toward getting their relationship back on track. However, Arizona had moved on (sort of) with Leah (Tessa Ferrer), but she broke it off as soon as Callie came calling.
In order to build their new relationship on a foundation of complete trust, Arizona confessed to Callie about sleeping with someone else while they were separated. Callie was obviously uncomfortable with the conversation but she thanked Arizona for telling her. “I really missed you,” said Arizona. If I liked Arizona and Callie together I would have totally loved this scene. But I don’t and the best part was when Leah walked in and made the environment infinitely more awkward.
The awkwardness reached sky high levels when Callie, Arizona, and Leah all had a surgery together. Leah got really nervous around Callie to the point that she couldn’t focus. Callie’s a smart girl and put two-and-two together about Leah and Arizona.
Leah told Arizona that her reputation was ruined and believed Callie hated her. With Callie’s recent behavior, that’s probably a given. I hate how Arizona just threw Leah out. Leah doesn’t deserve that awful treatment. Thank goodness for Stephanie, who cheered Leah up.
Later, Arizona and Callie had a heart-to-heart. Callie needed a day to digest all the information she had just learned. Arizona said she wanted to back in Callie’s life for good or not at all.
Meredith Gets Told
Cristina and Shane were working on the case of a baby and really needed to use Meredith’s printer. Since Meredith and Cristina were still on the outs, Meredith wasn’t happy about letting her use it. Wow, Meredith, did you not learn to share in pre-K? When Meredith was ready to take her printer back she screamed at Cristina that she had failed to save a baby and revolutionize modern medicine.
All of a sudden, Shane just went off on Meredith. He grilled Meredith on her lack of maturity in the situation and told her she made it all about her friendship with Cristina. Cristina stayed silent the whole time. Meredith stormed off and Shane apologized for his out of line behavior to Cristina.
Then, Cristina kissed Shane! Say it ain’t so!
Other Notes Worth Mentioning:
1. Richard (James Pickens Jr.) needs to stay away from treadmills. While in the midst of his stress test with Jo (Camilla Luddington), he sped up and fell! He broke a rib and was in some serious pain. Somebody needs to take any and all sharp or moving objects away from Richard.
2. The silence between Meredith and Cristina at the end of the episode was deafening. Even Derek and Owen noticed. Aside: I love Meredith, I really do, but she needs to accept something: She will never be the doctor that Cristina is. She simply has other priorities that Cristina does not and that’s okay. Cristina can and will dedicate her life to medicine. Cristina is the best doctor in that hospital and Meredith ultimately knows that. End of aside.
3. Why were we deprived the footage of Meredith’s sure-to-be epic Thanksgiving? She invited everyone and I mean everyone. That dinner is going to be one crazy time.
