Brittany Murphy‘s father, Angelo Bertolotti, always believed that the cause of his daughter’s death was more complicated than the result of natural causes. Now, with new findings, the case may be reopened to determine what ended the young actress’ life.

Brittany Murphy: Will Her Death Case Be Reopened?

Los Angeles attorney Mychal Wilson believes that Brittany’s case will be reopened, since a new report claims to have found high levels of heavy metals (usually found in rat poison) in her system.

“In light of this new evidence, the Brittany Murphy case may be reopened for investigation depending on the veracity of the independent testing by The Carlson Company,” Mychal tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “The Los Angeles County Coroners Office will most likely have to re-test on their own. Apparently, the LA County Coroner’s Office never tested for heavy metal poisoning.”

Former Federal Prosecutor Raoul Felder agrees that there is enough information for the LA County Coroners Office to “re-evaluate and look at their reports.”

“Even when a perfectly healthy person goes to the hospital and there’s a bad report, they repeat the test. There are always errors,” explains Raoul. “You have to make sure the samples were not contaminated. The first thing to do is run the test again and let the LA County Medical Examiners office look into it.”

Brittany Murphy’s Father: Why He Sued The LA County Coroner’s Office

Mychal says Brittany’s father always maintained that things just didn’t add up in his daughter’s death report.

“Interestingly, Brittany Murphy’s father, Angelo, sued the LA County Coroner’s office in January of 2012 because he believed that the testing and toxicology was incomplete and the death was never fully investigated,” states Mychal. “In fact, Mr. Bertolotti wanted a judge to order the LA County Coroner to release hair samples, facial hair and other specimens that the office had in its possession so he could pursue further testing with an independent testing company.”

Depending on new findings, cases can be re-opened, like Natalie Wood and JonBenet Ramsey’s cases.

“Generally, whether or not a case is re-opened is based on the new information that is being presented, such as new material evidence and/or witnesses. The JonBenet Ramsey case was reopened in 2010 after Jon Benet Ramsey mysteriously died in 1996. And in 2012, the LA County Sheriff’s department reopened famous actress Natalie Wood’s drowning case more than 30 years after her mysterious death,” Mychal explains.
