Gunman Confirmed On Yale Campus, Students Told To ‘Shelter In Place’

Students at Yale University were told to seek ‘Shelter In Place’ at 11:02 a.m. on Nov. 25 after a gunman was reported to be on the loose.

Police are looking for a gunman on the loose on Yale’s Old Campus in New Haven, Conn., after receiving an anonymous tip from a payphone near the campus. The whole Yale community was advised to stay indoors by Yale police, who are looking for a “older white man, balding, in a heavy overcoat,” according to the New Haven Independent.

Yale University Students Told To Seek ‘Shelter In Place’

At 11:20 a broadcast was made on the Old Campus, a part of Yale’s campus where many freshman dormitories are: “Confirmed report of a person with a gun on Old Campus. Shelter in place at once. This is not a test.”

A SWAT team arrived on the campus, as well as New Haven and Yale police.

An officer on campus reported to the Independent that no one has been shot, and police are “actively” searching for the reported gunman.

Yale University tweeted:

Two ambulances with sirens were seen racing on streets near the campus around 11:17 a.m.

Yale University Sends Out Email Regarding Gunman

Yale sent this email to students and faculty at 10:17 a.m, obtained by the Independent:

New Haven Police have received an anonymous call from a phone booth in the 300 block of Columbus Avenue (between Howard Avenue and Hallock Street) reporting a person on the Yale Campus with a gun. There have been NOT confirmations or sightings of this person. Yale and New Haven police are in the area. If you have information, please call 911 immediately. Yale Police advises those on campus to remain in their current location and shelter in place until there is additional information.
